Hello and a very warm welcome to La Leche League of Swansea Valley.

***********************************************************************

We are a breastfeeding support group that offers information, encouragement and friendship to anyone interested in breastfeeding in the Swansea Valley Area.baby

Our group meets face to face on the first  Friday of the month at Ystradgynlais Community Hospital between 10:30 and 12:30 and then a virtual meeting is held on our Facebook page every third Friday of the month between 8pm and 9pm.Please see Meetings page for meeting dates in 2018.

We are affiliated to La Leche League International, a worldwide organisation, who’s primary purpose is to provide mother to mother support and evidence based information to breastfeeding mums. The organisation was started in 1950’s America when breastfeeding was a very rare thing. The mothers who started the group, knew how special breastfeeding could be and felt that mums deserved the right to be supported to breastfeed their babies. Their pioneering work has helped transform people’s perceptions of breastfeeding and because of them many millions more mothers and babies have come to know the special bond that breastfeeding develops.

The name La Leche league, simply means ‘the milk’ in Spanish.

Profound Quote

The newborn baby has only three demands. They are warmth in the arms of his mother, food from her breasts, and security in the knowledge of her presence. Breastfeeding satisfies all three. – Grantly Dick-Read, MD, from Childbirth Without Fear 1955 (Cited in The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding)

How Important is Breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding provides your child with the emotional and nutritional essentials that they need to develope. It is what nature intended and is your babies normal food providing every vitamin, mineral and other elements that your baby needs. It offers so many advantages to both mother and baby, we could be here all day listing them. However, although it is natural, it does sometimes take a little while to get the hang of it but when you do, breastfeeding mothers claim that you will experience another level to mothering all together and we are here to offer support or just networking opportunities so please drop us a line or visit us at one of our meet ups.
